mdtravel.ca
Arranging Conference and Travel for Canadian Physicians since 1989
mdtravel.ca started as a branch of STITCHES Magazine, under the name Stitches Explorers Club. At its peak, STITCHES was the most read Medical Journal in Canada, and expanded to be published in the USA, Australia, South Africa, the UK and Belgium. The travel division started in a small way, but expanded, and conferences have been arranged around the globe in over 45 different countries.

When the publishing division of STITCHES magazine was sold, the travel division was retained by Dr John Cocker, and continued under the name Rxplorers Club, then mdtravel.ca..

More than 90 conferences, including 13 cruises have been arranged in warm countries, during the Canadian winter. Visits to local medical facilities are often included.

A temporary setback occurred when a long time "friend",who attended many conferences, kept a list of those attending and used these names to start an identical competing service. Tacky.

The most ambitious undertaking was a Sailing voyage around the world, 2000 - 2002 which is recorded in the book, "SAILING in STITCHES" available from our office.

mdtravel.ca limits itself to arranging the conferences. The travel is arranged through a licenced travel agent in Canada.
SPEAKERS at our conferences have included Professors from all Canadian Medical Schools, a President of the Canadian Medical Association, a President of the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, President of the European Association of Cosmetic Surgeons, President of the Bahamian Medical association, President of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons, Mr. John Templeton, of Templeton Funds, and family physicians from all Provinces on Canada, and from the UK, USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Antigua, Bahamas, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

All mdtravel.ca conferences are completely independant, and have been totally funded by the fees charged. NO sponsorship money has ever been received. We have received no support of any kind from any medical association, college, university or pharmaceutical company. While we have usually obtained accreditation from august bodies, we prefer to think that as professionals we are responsible for our own knowledge updates.

Dr John Cocker, who founded STITCHES Magazine, and the Explorers Club is a retired family physician from Aurora. He was active in the cruise industry as Medical Director of Strand Cruises, laterThompson Vacations. First through the magazine he planned CME conferences in warm countries during the Canadian winter. This expanded to include travel to exotic destinations, and culminated with being the Captain of a 74 ft sailing vessel which he took around the world with twelve passengers, visiting 61 countries. He continues to arrange CME conferences.
